Back surgery rules full-back out for the season

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry believes the loss of Jamie Day for the rest of the season is a major blow to the club. The full-back played an integral part in United's promotion from League Two last season, but will now miss the remainder of the campaign after being informed he needs back surgery. Fry told skysports.com that the strength in depth currently at their disposal at London Road will help the club overcome the loss of Day. "It's a big blow for us, as he was exceptional for us last year making over 40 appearances for us last season, but fortunately we've got strength in depth with Tom Williams slotting in his place," commented Fry.

"That's fantastic and with (Shane) Blackett coming back now, it gives us some cover. "Jamie had a great season for us last year and it's a big disappointment for him to pick up an injury early doors." Fry also revealed that manager Darren Ferguson is looking to bring a replacement in for Day on loan, but stressed there is no rush to sign anyone due to Williams' form. "The gaffer might be interested in bringing a replacement in for left-back, there's no urgency required because Tom has done well to fill in where Jamie left off," he continued. "Tom has a lot of experience and has the trust of myself and the manager to do the job at left-back required of him and so far he has done so rather well."
