Huddersfield have signed Accrington Stanley midfielder Ian Craney for an undisclosed fee.

Midfielder agrees three-year contract at Galpharm Stadium

Huddersfield Town have signed Accrington Stanley midfielder Ian Craney for an undisclosed six-figure fee. Craney only rejoined Accrington in a club record deal from Swansea City in January and signed a three-and-a-half year contract. He had been wanted by Morecambe earlier in the summer and had scored twice in Stanley's opening three games of the new season. However, he has now accepted a three-year deal with Huddersfield and will join Stan Ternent's side subject to passing a medical.

Out-and-out winner

"Ian is a forward-going midfield player who has good ball retention and can score a goal," Ternent told the club's official website. "He gives us more competition for places and is a player I have been aware of since my Burnley days when he was at Accrington. "Technically he is a very good player, but he is an out-and-out winner. I'm delighted to have him on board. "One or two clubs were interested in him and we've paid a substantial fee - one similar to what we paid for 'Robbo' (Gary Roberts). "He's a good passer of the ball, which we need as you want different blends in different areas of the park."
