Knill hails Morrell's arrival as a 'real coup'

Bury have completed the signing of veteran striker Andy Morrell on a free transfer from Blackpool. Morrell has agreed a two-year contract with the League Two club after opting to move on from Bloomfield Road. Shakers boss Alan Knill is delighted with the capture of the 33-year-old, particularly given the interest in Morrell. "It's a real coup for us," Knill told the club's official website. "He had plenty of other offers in our division and I think he could have stayed in the Championship, but he decided to come to us.

Proven goalscorer

"I met him on Thursday and he believes in what we're trying to do here, so we're delighted that a Championship player has come to us. "It was fantastic from the board really because I've been after a striker and we thought about a loan, but no, we've signed him, he's our player. "If any other team in this division had signed Andy Morrell it would have been a decent signing, so it's a great effort from the football club and hopefully he'll be what we expect him to be. "And we're signing somebody here, he's a proven goalscorer with a track record that's played at a really good level and still could play at that level, but he's chosen to come to us."
