Midfielder pens 12-month contract with Bury

Former Tranmere midfielder Michael Jones has joined Bury on a 12-month contract. Jones spent the second half of last season on loan at Shrewsbury before being released by Tranmere in May. The 20-year-old has been on trial at Gigg Lane this summer and has impressed Alan Knill sufficiently to earn a deal. He becomes the second trialist to sign for the Shakers after former Huddersfield trainee Danny Racchi. However, striker Phil Marsh and Paul Tierney have been released after failing to catch Knill's eye in pre-season. Marsh admits it is disappointing not to be taken on by the club, but is confident of getting fixed up before the start of next season. "Obviously it's disappointing not to be offered a deal, especially after what I felt was a good pre-season," Marsh told skysports.com. "But I'm still hopeful something will happen for me. "I scored three goals in four games for Bury and got a couple of assists too, so hopeful they'll be a couple of clubs alerted to what I can do."
