Defender opts for Barnsley switch

Barnsley have beaten a host of clubs to secure the signature of veteran defender Darren Moore. The uncompromising centre-half arrives at Oakwell on a free transfer having been released by Derby. The 34-year-old was thought to be a target of Leicester while also having the opportunity to return to former club Bradford. However, he has opted for life in the Championship with Barnsley and has agreed a one-year deal with The Tykes. His new boss, Simon Davey, is looking forward to working with a man who has tasted promotion to the Premier League on no less than four occasions. "We have been looking to increase competition at the back and have brought in a player with a proven pedigree," he told the club's official website. "Darren has won promotion four times from the Championship during his career and we are delighted to have persuaded him to join despite interest from a lot of other clubs."
