Striker set to begin search for new club

Shrewsbury striker Andy Cooke has left the club by mutual consent after discussions with Paul Simpson. The veteran forward's contract is due to expire in the summer, and having recently picked up a niggling knee injury it has been decided that getting fit and finding a new club before the start of next season is now his best option. He has enjoyed a 13-year professional career taking in Burnley, Stoke, Busan Icons, Bradford and Darlington. He had notched five goals in 14 League Two appearances this season and his manger admits that it was a difficult decision to let him go.

Settlement

"We are in the stage of the season where we are going to be making decisions on players," Simpson told the club's official website. "I made the decision that I wasn't going to offer Andy anything at the end of the season. "I think he is a very good player and one of the senior players so out of respect for him I thought it was only right that I should speak to him early and let him know that he wasn't going to get a contract. "With Andy it was a case that we don't really know how long it was going to take him to get fit so I thought it was in both our interests to agree a settlement."
