Chester City winger Kevin Ellison's proposed return to Stockport County has fallen through.
Last weekend, Ellison appeared to have agreed to link up with Stockport on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.
The switch hit a snag earlier in the week when Chester claimed Ellison had raised objections to the move, although the Hatters were confident the problems would be resolved.
However, Stockport have now conceded that there appears to be no prospect of Ellison returning to Edgeley Park in the near future.
"At this point in time the move has broken down and it doesn't look as though it will be resurrected," said a Hatters spokesman.
Chester's club secretary Tony Allan also confirmed that Ellison would remain with the Blues for the foreseeable future.
Allan said: "Kevin Ellison was brought in to do a job for Chester City and obviously there was interest shown in the player, but the move hasn't come to fruition and we're happy to have him at the club."
