Hornets boss spurred on by initial rejection

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd has revealed how a previous snub by Collins John only served to increase his desire to land the Fulham striker. Boothroyd is hoping to end a year-long wait by bringing the Dutch forward to Vicarage Road on loan until the end of the season. The John deal should be sealed regardless of whether Marlon King's proposed £5million sale to the Cottagers goes through or not.

Determined

Boothroyd said: "I tried to get him a year ago last January and he turned us down. "When somebody does that, it's like a woman saying no to you. It just makes you even more determined to get them. "It's been agreed whatever happens with Marlon. He's a massive talent with great physique, he's exceptionally quick with a great goalscoring record. "Hopefully he'll come here and the environment that we've got will help him thrive."
Ellington
Meanwhile, Hornets striker Nathan Ellington is ready to fill King's boots at Vicarage Road should he depart for the Cottagers. Ellington finally bagged his first goal for Boothroyd's side against Charlton on Saturday and is determined to continue the scoring form he displayed in the Championship with previous clubs Wigan and West Brom. He said: "I've just got to take my chance. I know Marlon from playing at Watford and I had seen him about at previous clubs. "It would be a shame if he moved on - of course it would because he's a good player. He has scored a lot of goals for Watford so he's obviously going to be missed. "But hopefully I'll perform well and mean that he's not missed as much as he would otherwise be."
