Cheltenham's Michael Townsend has been ruled out until January by a virus.

Defender told to rest after virus

Cheltenham's Michael Townsend has been ruled out until January by a virus. The 21-year-old defender has been suffering from labyrinthitis, a condition of the inner ear that causes tiredness and affects balance. Townsend has been given a clean bill of health by a specialist but he is still unable to train properly prompting the Whaddon Road club to sign him off until the New Year. Senior sports therapist Ian Weston told the League One club's official website: "Michael saw the specialist again and he has given him the all clear although he is still suffering with symptoms.

Post-viral syndrome

"A blood test confirmed that he has had a virus so the conclusion is that it is some kind of post-viral syndrome. "We have taken the decision to leave him out completely until the New Year to give him time to fully recover. "That will take the pressure off him and allow Michael to concentrate fully on getting himself right."
