Peter Cavanagh does not expect to walk straight back into the Accrington squad when he recovers from surgery.
The Stanley skipper has been pencilled in for a return over the festive period after going under the knife to correct a hernia problem last week.
But the former Liverpool trainee knows that he may have to bide his time on the sidelines, but is happy to do just that.
Cavanagh said: "We've got a lot of good players in the squad so I know I'll have to fight to try and get my place back.
"And I'm hoping that's the case because if someone comes in and does well, then the team is doing well, and that's what we all want."
