Bristol City have accepted an undisclosed offer from Port Vale for Clayton Fortune.
Fortune has been on loan at Vale since November and they are keen to keep him on a permanent basis.
Robins chairman Steve Lansdown confirmed a deal had been struck for Fortune with the final decision now up to the player.
"We have accepted a bid from Port Vale for Clayton, that was part of the loan agreement that took him there," Lansdown told the club's official website.
"It is an undisclosed five-figure sum, while we also have a sell-on clause in the deal. It is now up to Clayton to agree terms with Port Vale."
Fortune is refusing to rush his decision even though he is keen to join Port Vale.
"I haven't said I don't want to sign for Port Vale. I'm interested in signing, I just don't want to rush into anything yet," Fortune told The Sentinel.
"I am getting to an important stage of my career and it's important I make the right decision for me and everyone around me.
"I have said since the start of the season that I want to wait until the summer before making a decision. I've told Martin Foyle that and he understands."
