Fortune's friend seals switch

Port Vale have signed Bristol City defender Clayton Fortune on loan until January.

Port Vale have signed Bristol City defender Clayton Fortune on loan until January.

Vale recently lost the services of skipper Sam Collins when he signed for Hull City and have wasted no time in securing a replacement.

The signing was clinched from underneath the nose of Wycombe Wanderers following the intervention of striker Lee Matthews - himself a former City player.

"It was Lee Matthews who alerted me to the availability of Clayton, who was about to join Wycombe Wanderers, but fortunately he decided to come here instead," said Vale boss Martin Foyle (pictured).

"He is a good size, predominantly left-footed and hopefully he can push on and get some games under his belt because he certainly has the pedigree.

"We are absolutely desperate for players because of the injury situation here at Vale Park and I knew I had to bring somebody in by the weekend."
