Brown targets play-off success

Phil Brown has switched his sights to the play-offs after seeing Southend suffer a shock 1-0 defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon.

On the back of three successive wins, Brown had been hopeful of the Shrimpers still being able to secure automatic promotion. But, after a second-half penalty from Jack Midson ended Southend's good run, the Shrimpers boss knows the play-offs are now the best his team can hope for. "If we had won today then maybe the top three could still have been on but it's all about the play-offs now and maybe that helps us," said Brown. "We know what we have to achieve with four games to go but it was bitterly disappointing out there today. "I don't think you can fault the players for effort and we got crosses into the box, we had chances but it just didn't go in. "The way the penalty squirmed under Daniel Bentley's body also summed up our day to be honest."
