Alex Pritchard has backed his fellow Tottenham youngsters for a bright future despite their recent cup disappointments.

Pritchard, currently on loan at Brentford, was at Wembley to watch fellow academy graduates Harry Kane, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Andros Townsend suffer a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final last Sunday.

Pritchard admitted he felt for his Spurs teammates after the result followed exit from the Europa League several days earlier, but he insists they have every reason to be proud.

“It was a massive game against a great Chelsea team so the lads shouldn’t be too disappointed,” Pritchard told Sky Sports.

“They should be proud of themselves and I’m sure they’ll be back in a final soon. They’re still young and they’ll bounce back before the end of the season.

“They’re a talented group - Ryan, Harry, Nabil and all the other young players have worked hard in training and that’s the main reason behind their success. Long may it continue.”

Pritchard is currently on a season-long loan at Griffin Park and will be given the chance to prove he is worthy of competing for a first-team place at Tottenham in the next pre-season.

The midfielder, 21, has scored eight goals in 35 appearances for the Bees as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

And Pritchard said: “Things are really good at the moment and set well for the rest of the season.

“I wouldn’t say I’m dictating things myself in midfield - It’s the movement and the way we play with the boys around me that helps me do well.”
