Warburton: We have the edge

Brentford boss Mark Warburton believes history will give his players the mental edge in the race for promotion after beating Notts County 3-1.

Many of the Bees side that comfortably saw off Notts County 3-1 were in the team that missed out in the final-day drama against Doncaster last season. An Alan Judge brace against his old side after an Adam Forshaw penalty ensured the Londoners kept their cushion against the chasing pack. And Warburton believes his young squad have learned a lot: "We are a strong squad with a superb support team capable of working at any level, and that's important at this stage of the season. "The players have all learned a lot from the disappointment of last season and have used it going into this season to be even stronger. We have taken the positives from that and moved forward." Warburton added: "Our challenge is to keep the self-belief we have and I am sure we will do. "If we win our three remaining home games and when we're away the team plays like they did at Sheffield United, we will pick up points." Adam Forshaw, one of the Bees broken-hearted players from last season, kept his nerve to break the deadlock from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark. He sent County goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski the wrong way after Clayton Donaldson had been brought down in the box by Haydn Hollis. Centre-back Hollis saw red for the late tackle and the Londoners, who were already in control, never looked back. Judge then scored twice against his former club, firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after a slide-rule Alan McCormack pass had played him in. And he was in the right place to smash home the third just after the restart after Bialkowski twice denied Toumani Diagouraga with excellent stops. Alan Sheehan's curling free-kick forced Bees goalkeeper David Button into a full-length save after 54 minutes as the home side closed the game down. But Jimmy Spencer grabbed a late consolation for the visitors when he lobbed over a stranded Button late on.
