Alexander plundered a hat-trick in Saturday's 5-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers and he has scored 12 goals in 19 League One appearances this season.
Bees boss Uwe Rosler is keen to hang on to the 32-year-old, who moved to Griffin Park from Millwall in 2010.
However, Alexander does not want to rush into signing an extension and will only commit his future to Brentford once the deal meets his expectations.
"We're talking," said Alexander following his treble against Wycombe.
"I've put to them what I think I deserve and if they come back with it then there will be the signature.
"Brentford have got to make sure it is right for myself and I've got to make sure it is right for my family.
"And when it is, I'll put pen to paper. But until then I won't sign."
