Fitzgerald lands Bees role

Brentford have appointed Scott Fitzgerald as their new youth team boss.

Brentford have appointed Scott Fitzgerald as their new youth team boss.

Fitzgerald - known as Scott B Fitzgerald at Griffin Park to avoid confusion with recent signing Scott P Fitzgerald - has been handed a new role at the club.

Manager Martin Allen has decided to hand the 35-year-old the chance to take on a coaching role, while current youth coach Barry Quin will continue as head of youth at the club.

"I can confirm that Scott Fitzgerald will, next season, be appointed youth team manager," said Allen.

"Barry Quin will be continuing as head of youth. Barry is a very valuable member of staff and has worked at the football club for coming up to 18 years.

"Scott Fitzgerald has been a model professional since I arrived here over one year ago. I think it fair to say he was always going to be a back-up player this year and when called upon, like away at Luton in the FA Cup, he has always done a good job.

"We have some very good young players coming through and we must always look to get better.

"We must do the absolute maximum to improve all these players while they are under our belt, and with this structured set-up I am confident the future is in good hands."
