Rotherham boss Steve Evans told Goals on Sunday about his impressive sales career, which included meeting Hollywood star Michael Douglas.
The Scot has won back-to-back promotion with the Millers, who will play in the Championship next season, but his current role is a far cry from his previous career.
Evans told Ben and Kammy about why he moved into sales and how it culminated in rubbing shoulders with the A-listers.
“I went up to St Johnstone and finished up there as a young man at 24, with what’s now a cruciate but at the time there wasn’t the science to bring you back,” he said.
“Basically in that day, like today, it was about another career. I went off and did a number of things, ended up working in sales which brought me to England to work for Budweiser. I had a successful sales career with them.”
Evans’ job saw him travel to the 1994 World Cup in the USA, which he remembers fondly, but the 52-year-old said he always wanted to come back to football.
“I took some customers there and had a fantastic time,” he added.
“We took some big clients – if I said to the players now that I was having a beer with Michael Douglas and flying in helicopters, you know the stick I would get!
“They were great days – that’s when I met the real stars.
“I had some fantastic times in my sales career, but I always had the ambition at some stage to come back into football.”
