Rotherham manager Steve Evans agrees to wear sombrero

Image: The #SombreroForSteve campaign proved hugely popular

Rotherham manager Steve Evans has bowed to public opinion and agreed to attend their final game of the season at Leeds wearing a sombrero.

Evans promised Millers' fans earlier in the season he would do just that if they secured their Championship status and Sky Sports News HQ have been asking viewers to remind him of that.

By using the hashtag #SombreroForSteve, you have been able to tweet and ask Steve to don his holiday gear for the Elland Road game.

We can reveal that 8,500 tweets have now been sent using that hashtag and Evans will stick to his pledge.

"At some stage tomorrow (Saturday), you will see Steve Evans with the sombrero, flip-flops, shorts and sunglasses," he told the Morning View on Sky Sports News HQ.

"I will have my sombrero to hand and, believe me, I am a sight to behold in my shorts."

Rotherham manager Steve Evans spoke with Sky Sports News HQ this week and he has agreed to wear his sombrero on Saturday

As for the Twitter campaign, Evans admits he has been delighted with the response and the interest it has attracted.

"It's been absolutely fantastic," he added. "It's not being disrespectful to (already relegated) Wigan or Millwall, I know what those managers and their supporters stand for.

"But I did promise Millers fans that if we stayed up I would wear my summer gear for the derby at Leeds.

"Thanks to everyone who has tweeted in at Sky Sports, it’s been a fantastic campaign, and I’m told (Watford striker) Troy Deeney, the best player in the Championship, was tweeting and it got a record number of retweets for him.

"So thank you to Troy and Sky Sports."

The relegation issues in the Sky Bet Championship may now be settled but there is plenty to play for at the other end of the table, with play-off places still to be decided, while either Watford or Bournemouth could still be crowned champions.

Coverage of Derby v Reading begins on Sky Sports 1 at midday on Saturday, or you can choose to watch Blackburn v Ipswich on Sky Sports 2, also from midday.
