Steve Evans ready to battle to keep Rotherham in the Championship

Rotherham manager Steve Evans has closed ranks as the South Yorkshire club tries to battle for Sky Bet Championship safety.

The Millers, who drew 1-1 in a game they dominated at Fulham on Wednesday, are five points ahead of 22nd-placed Millwall, but are faced with the stark possibility of a three-point deduction following a Football League charge for fielding an ineligible player.

The Lions, resurgent under Neil Harris and with a game in hand, play twice before the Millers take the field again, meaning the fight for survival looks to be going down to the wire.

The Scot is keen to create a siege mentality and hopes that can galvanise the squad.

"As Rotherham United we will win games, as Rotherham United we will lose games but when you're inside it, you're never defeated," he said.

"We get knocked from pillar to post as a team and as a squad, let the knocking continue and we will just try and fight tooth and nail to make sure we give this great club another season in the Championship."

The Cottagers, who were woeful in the Craven Cottage clash with the Millers, are seven points ahead of Millwall with three games to play but Evans still thinks they are not out of the scrap just yet.

He added: "I read in the west London press that Fulham are out of it and read a quote that they are expecting to go to Blackpool and get three points on Saturday and have a party on the bus on the way home.

"Lee Clark doesn't need a team-talk, he just has to put that up on the wall.

"They are two points in front of us and have got Blackpool, Middlesbrough and Norwich. I think they are very much in it."
