Sky Bet Championship: Rotherham boss Steve Evans not leaving for Peterborough

Rotherham manager Steve Evans will "110 per cent" not be leaving to join Peterborough, according to Millers chairman Tony Stewart.

Evans was installed as a frontrunner to replace Darren Ferguson at London Road and, although distancing himself from the vacant job, refused to unequivocally rule himself out of the running when quizzed during his pre-match press conference for the Millers' clash at Watford.

But his chairman has done the speaking for him and insisted he is not expecting an approach from Peterborough, with the two clubs having intrinsic links.

Evans has a family home near Peterborough and admits to having a good relationship with Posh director of football Barry Fry, Ferguson and chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

But the Millers have also developed an affinity with the League One club, and Stewart believes an approach for Evans would sour it.

"We are very good friends with Peterborough but we have not had any approach, we can rule that out 110 per cent, it wont happen," Stewart said.

"It's a club we have got an affinity with. Steve has always been good friends with Barry Fry and that relationship has developed with the club as well.

"With regards to Peterborough I would be amazed if I got a phone call, in fact I'd probably be upset actually because it would mar a relationship which we have got.

"The Peterborough link is flattering for Steve, it is not a nuisance, it is not something that worries me.

"I can tell you as the chairman of Rotherham United that Steve is not going to Peterborough. There is nothing in it, there is no substance."

MacAnthony has spoken of his admiration for the Scot, who took the Millers from League Two to the Championship, but will now be forced to look elsewhere.
