Sky Bet Championship: Rotherham boss Steve Evans confident in Jonson Clarke-Harris

Rotherham boss Steve Evans believes record signing Jonson Clarke-Harris has the perfect platform to develop his skills at the South Yorkshire club.

The 20-year-old striker, who joined the Millers on transfer deadline day in August for a £400,000 fee, has just returned to the AESSEAL New York Stadium following a month's loan at League One MK Dons.

Clarke-Harris made five appearances for Karl Robinson's men, but three of those were from the bench and Evans was disappointed with the amount of time he spent on the pitch.

Despite interest from other clubs, now that Clarke-Harris is back in South Yorkshire Evans intends to develop him there and hopes he could help fire the Millers to Championship safety.

"We had one or two clubs on the phone to us when they knew Jonno was going to come back, but he has come back in the doors and I have to say he has trained impressively well," Evans said.

"We would be reserved to send him back out, we still feel he has a future here. His development is here at this moment in time.

"He has come back here with the same desire as when I signed him and what a wonderful platform in the Championship to go and play games.

"He needs to play games, he's at that stage of his development but there is no reason why he can't play games here, we think that highly of him."

Despite the lack of action at MK, he managed just 180 minutes of action, Evans has no qualms with the management of him.

"He didn't get the game time all of us hoped he would get when he went down there, but he joined a club that went from playing two up front to playing one up front," Evans added.

"I have never been a manager that cuts across team selection so that was always left at Karl Robinson's door and they are sitting there challenging to be champions of that division so I can't complain at anything they are doing.

"I wouldn't say he has improved because we know what he has got, but the kid has not had enough game time."
