Rotherham's Luciano Becchio lacks fitness, according to Steve Evans

On-loan striker Luciano Becchio needs to get fitter in order for Rotherham to get the best out of him, according to boss Steve Evans.

The Argentinian front man was a deadline-day signing from Norwich and has played a total of 84 minutes after stepping off the bench in games against Bournemouth and Bolton.

But with very little football with the Canaries in the last 18 months, the former Leeds man has been off the pace and struggled for fitness.

"Luciano is not at the fitness and sharpness levels we'd like him to be at," Evans said. "We like to think we increase the fitness and sharpness levels of every player we sign.

"He's already demonstrated, very early in his time with us, that he's a goalscorer, he can hold the play up, he can bring people into play.

"He's everything we know from his days at Leeds.

"But we just need to get him a bit fitter, stronger and sharper. Of course, that only comes with playing as well.

"He's played a lot of reserve and Under-21 games but, with respect, I could go out and play in these Under-21 games. No-one tackles in them or challenges in them."
