Rotherham's record signing Jordan Bowery is having to learn a new style of play, according to assistant manager Paul Raynor.
The £250,000 striker, who signed from Premier League side Aston Villa earlier in the summer, has had a mixed pre-season campaign as he finds his feet at his new club.
He hit the net in friendlies against Tamworth and Stocksbridge but was frustrated in a number of other outings, and Raynor admits he is taking time to adapt to the Millers' methods.
"He has been playing a totally different style of football," the number two said. "Aston Villa are Aston Villa, they play a possession game.
"He had to link the play, he is not in our team to do that.
"He's in the team to use his pace and power and get on the end of chances, because we create a lot of them. We need to work on his composure."
Despite his hefty price tag, the 23-year-old is not guaranteed a spot in the Millers' starting XI for their season-opener against Derby on Saturday owing to boss Steve Evans' options in that department.
And the Scot is keen on strengthening further as the club are set to resume negotiations with Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone over a deal for prolific striker Stevie May.
With chief executive Paul Douglas returning from holiday, talks over a new contract for last season's top scorer Kieran Agard are also set to continue amid rumours of a potential move to Bristol City.
The Millers conclude their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Leicester on Tuesday night.
Frazer Richardson is unlikely to feature with a foot problem and the right-back faces a race against time to be fit in time for Saturday's clash at the iPro Stadium.
