Rotherham rise stuns Morgan

Skipper Craig Morgan reckons no one could have predicted Rotherham's impressive rise.

The Millers have gone from days away from extinction and a 17-point deduction in League Two to the Championship in just six years after they beat Leyton Orient on penalties in Sunday's League One play-off final. The success came on the back of automatic promotion from League Two last season and marks a day that some fans, who were forced to watch their team play at an athletics stadium in Sheffield for four years, never thought would come. It was also a special day for Morgan, who led his team-mates up the steps at Wembley, as it was his second back-to-back promotions after he did it previously with Peterborough. "From where the club were two to three years ago, I don't think the fans could have ever imagined in their wildest of dreams what has happened," he said. "But it has and I hope we made them proud and stick behind us. "They always say that the play-offs is the best way to go up, financially for the club, and for the players and fans. Having experienced it, it is definitely the best way." The Millers' quick rise means they will have to add quality to their squad if they are to make a mark in the second tier next season. And Morgan believes it is also important they keep their best players. "We've got to invest wisely and that's down to Tony (Stewart, Millers chairman) and the gaffer to pick the right players to come in," he added. "It's key to keep the players. That's going to be equally as hard. There's a lot of interest in not just (Ben) Pringle and (Kieran) Agard, but a lot of players. "It will be down to the gaffer to pick the right players. It's not about quantity, it's about quality. The right players are important. We need at least three or four. Probably six."
