Arnason keen on Millers stay

Rotherham defender Kari Arnason has revealed he is happy to stay at the New York Stadium next season.

The 31-year-old Iceland international's two-year deal expires in the summer, though the club could have an option to extend if they wish as boss Steve Evans hinted that most of his out-of-contract players could be tied down by extension clauses. Arnason has been a central figure in the club's rise over the last two years, initially last season as the Millers won promotion from League Two and then this campaign as they have exceeded all expectations to book themselves a play-off place in League One. Evans, who once joked he loved Arnason more than his wife, has yet to sit down with any of his out-of-contract players, but talks will be received positively by the centre-half. "I haven't heard much, but I would love to play for Rotherham next season," he told Press Association Sport. "I haven't got a clue what the manager is thinking in terms of a new contract but I'd love to stay." Arnason has made 44 appearances this season, forming a strong central defensive pairing with Craig Morgan, but he has been his own worst critic. "My form has been up and down,," he added. "I have been happy with part of it but after the (World Cup) play-off against Croatia I came back and was down in the dumps and for four or five games I wasn't up to standard. "But I turned it around again and have played well. Lately it has been a little bit sloppy from me, but I know I will be there for the play-offs."
