Agard has to wait for new deal

Rotherham manager Steve Evans says top scorer Kieran Agard will not get special treatment when it comes to earning a new contract.

The 24-year-old is having the season of his life, having bagged 25 goals in a superb Millers campaign which sees them in the League One play-offs. Evans has revealed the club have the option to extend Agard's contract in the summer for an extra year but is considering offering a long-term deal. However, despite his form and reported interest from other clubs, Evans says Agard must wait until the end of the season along with the rest of the out-of-contract players. "That decision will come when we sit down with the chairman after the season, which we hope is at the end of May as it means we will have been to Wembley," Evans said. "Not only Kieran is up for discussion, we have got players who have a year left that we need to sit down and discuss extending, but Kieran is one among everyone. "There is no special treatment, he will go in the mix for everyone else." With the Millers still not knowing what division they will be playing in next season, the boss admits he has been planning for both eventualities - either as a Championship club or staying in the third tier. "We are prepared for both," he added. "Our work is going on either for Championship football or for remaining as a club in League One. All that work is going in and will go on all the way through the play-offs." Meanwhile, Agard's form over April, where he scored five goals, has earned him a nomination for the Football League Player of the Month award. And Evans thinks it's an award he deserves to scoop. "He should win it, but he should have won one by now," he said. "But we don't seem to get much recognition from those outside the club. If justice is served he will be successful."
