Evans slams referee Dean

Steve Evans launched a scathing attack on referee Michael Dean after Rotherham's 1-0 loss at South Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United.

Ben Davies scored a last-minute penalty, awarded after Rotherham skipper Craig Morgan tangled with his Sheffield United counterpart Harry Maguire at a corner. The result ended promotion-chasing Rotherham's 16-match unbeaten run and Evans roundly criticised the decision to award the spot-kick, together with referee Dean's overall performance. Evans said: "It was a shocking decision from the referee. I'm not questioning his honesty, but we had two nailed on penalties and I've just looked at the incident that gave them a penalty. It was simply not a penalty - Harry (Maguire) slipped over. "That Kop end screamed for a penalty and the referee gives it. It was a Premier League official again - we had this earlier in the season - and it's just a shocking decision. "There was also a handball in the box, which I think everybody in the ground thought was a penalty. Then Tom Hitchcock got his ankles clipped which was a penalty and we don't get that given. "I feel for my players because that was a 'Premiership-standard' referee. He said that even after he watches the DVD, he'll still think he's got it right. Deary me, some people at some levels have problems, don't they? "We'll get ready for the play-offs now. Automatic promotion has gone. "It was a big decision in the 90th minute to take that away from our team. Why don't they keep the Premiership referees in the Premier League?"
