Magennis signs as Mackie prepares for his final game for Dons

Kari Arnason is still hoping to agree a deal to stay Aberdeen after team-mate Josh Magennis signed a one-year contract extension. Iceland international Arnason rejected a new contract earlier in the year, with Dons boss Craig Brown confirming the club would not be increasing their offer. However, the midfielder is still willing to negotiate a deal after impressing in his first season and has not given up hope of staying at Pittodrie. "The club is really good I've enjoyed it a lot at Aberdeen," he told RedTV. "The boys are terrific, the gaffer has done really well bringing this group of players together, there's not a bad word I could say about any of the players.

Middle ground

"I want to stay at the club and I am hoping that we can come to terms and find some middle ground, but it is up to the club. I haven't heard much lately, I'm just waiting to see what happens." One player who has agreed a new deal is Magennis, with the versatile Northern Ireland international accepting a 12-month extension. Meanwhile, Darren Mackie will captain Aberdeen against St Mirren on Saturday on what will be his final appearance for the club as he is leaving when his contract expires. Mackie said: "This is my 13th full season at the club so it has been a long time and it has been a huge part of my life. "I have loved pretty much every minute of it. There have been big highs and lows, but overall it's been a great time. "I love the club and I'm still a supporter at heart so it will be sad to leave. I wish the club all the best for the future and I hope they can get back to the very top."
