Rotherham forward Gareth Evans' ankle injury sustained during last month's 3-2 win at Bradford is not as bad as first feared.
The 23-year-old has been a revelation for the Millers since his summer move from Macclesfield but has been sidelined since the knock in November.
The initial prognosis was not good, with fears he could potentially miss the majority of the season.
However, a further scan this week has allayed such worries.
"The report isn't as bad as we feared, there was a problem in there but it seems that was a long-term injury that's been before," manager Andy Scott told the club's official website.
"We are looking at the middle of January for him to be match fit, which is much better than the original diagnosis."
