Carlisle boss Gregg Abbott wants to extend James Tavernier's loan deal from Newcastle.

The full-back's loan is due to expire on September 13 and Abbott is keen to prolong his stay with the Cumbrians as first-choice right-back Frank Simek is out injured until October. Tavernier has started in five league games for Carlisle so far this campaign. Abbott told the Times & Star: "We want to keep James a bit longer and we hope to make progress on that this week."
