Winger appeals Darlington axe

Darlington have ended the contract of midfielder Jeff Smith following a breach of the club's rules. The winger has been shown the door following an investigation by the club into an unspecified incident that happened last month. Smith, who has been a regular in the Quakers starting line-up this season, is to appeal the decision, the outcome of which will be heard next week. Darlington's communications manager Martin Walker told the Northern Echo: "We can confirm that a disciplinary issue concerning one of our players is currently ongoing, but it is a private matter which is being dealt with internally so it is not appropriate for us to go into any detail at the moment."
