Rotherham striker Drewe Broughton has signed a new one-year contract with the club, while nine first-team players have been released.
Broughton struck nine goals for the Millers this season as he proved a key part of manager Mark Robins' plans.
The League Two outfit, who began the campaign with a 17-point deduction after entering administration, have therefore acted to secure the forward's immediate future and have tied the former MK Dons player down until June 2010.
Broughton said: "I'm delighted with the new deal. I've felt at home in Rotherham and can see the club is moving forward and I want to be a part of that.
"It's been a great season for the club. Rotherham United are now a team that is taken seriously around the country and we will now start the new campaign on zero points, which will give us a level playing field with the rest of the division."
Rebuild
Meanwhile, Robins has begun rebuilding his squad for next term by releasing nine members of his squad.
The highest profile casualties include second-choice goalkeeper Steven Cann and midfielders Alex Rhodes and Peter Holmes.
Jamie Clarke, Omar Garcia, Jamie Yates, Marc Newsham, Andy Todd and Tom Cahill have also been told they have no future at the club.
Millers chief operating officer Paul Douglas said: "Everyone at Rotherham would like to thank the players for their contribution while they have been with the club.
