Cardiff seem to have won the race to secure the services of striker Eoin Doyle after agreeing a fee with Chesterfield, according to Sky sources.
Doyle has been in red-hot form for the League One club this season, scoring 25 goals in all competitions, and Cardiff look to have got their man for a fee in the region of £750,000.
The former Hibernian centre-forward, who scored against Doncaster last Saturday, had also been a top target for Sheffield United.
There were also reports over the weekend claiming Preston North End and New York City were keen on the 26-year-old who began his career in Ireland with Shelbourne 10 years ago.
Cardiff boss Russell Slade will be desperate to reignite their push for promotion after slipping to 16th with six losses in 10 matches.
Meanwhile, Sky sources understand Chesterfield are in discussions with Sheffield Wednesday to sign youngter Caolan Lavery on loan as Doyle's replacement.
The 22-year-old is a product of Wednesday's academy and has previously spent time on loan at Southend and Plymouth.
