Ian Evatt has made his first appearance for Chesterfield in a behind-closed doors friendly.

Former Spireites defender Evatt rejoined the club last month but has yet to feature for the Sky Bet League Two club as he regains full fitness following nine months out after knee surgery. The central defender, 31, manager Paul Cook's captain in waiting, is a step closer to making his debut after featuring for 70 minutes on Tuesday afternoon as Chesterfield beat Grimsby 5-1 at the Cylinders Sports Ground. Assistant boss Leam Richardson said after the game: "Evo will tell you he's fit to play today but we're just trying to look after everybody and do the right thing. "Ian is one of the reasons the game's been arranged, to get him some minutes in his legs. He's still on the long road to full fitness but this game goes a long way towards that." Eoin Doyle scored a hat-trick in the game while Armand Gnanduillet and talented teenager Mason Coy were also on the scoresheet.
