John Sheridan has thanked Jonathan Grounds and Lee Johnson for their contributions to Chesterfield, despite the poor results.
Middlesbrough defender Grounds and Bristol City midfielder Johnson played the final game of their three-month stints as the Spireites lost 1-0 at home to neighbours Sheffield United on Saturday.
The result extended the club's winless run in npower League One to 10 matches, eight of which have been defeats, and left Sheridan's side bottom of the table.
"They came in and both did well. Results-wise, we didn't get the results we wanted but they both played a part," Sheridan said.
"They are both good players and they worked hard and tried to help us get out of the position we are in. It hasn't quite worked out though, but I really appreciate what they tried to do."
