Chesterfield's experienced midfielder Mark Allott insists that he has no plans to hang up his boots in the immediate future.
The 34-year-old has been a regular for the Spireites this season, missing just two league games so far as they struggle to adapt to League One.
The former Oldham man has made over 600 appearances during his career and he told
skysports.com that he is determined to keep playing as long as his body allows him to.
"You never know in this game, but I'm confident of playing for another few years yet, with another couple of years on my contract here still," he said.
"When we get to that stage we will see how things are, but if I still feel fit and enjoying my football then I'd love to carry on.
Short career
"There's no better way to earn a living and most young lads want to be a footballer when they grow up, so hopefully I can continue doing so for as long as possible because it is a short career in many respects.
"I've been quite lucky to have been playing for so long because although it takes a lot of hard work you need a bit of luck along the way to avoid the serious injuries which can easily cut short a players' career."
The Spireites stormed to the League Two title last season, but have been brought down with a bump this year after finding the step-up a difficult one, yet Allott insists that a lot of progress has been made since he rejoined the club in 2009.
"From when I came here to what it is now is pretty unbelievable and the new ground has given the whole town a boost because it is something to be proud of," he added.
"People look forward to coming to Chesterfield and the b2net Stadium now because there is a great atmosphere generated when it is full."
