Swindon striker poised to step up to League One

Skysports.com understands Swindon Town striker Leon Clarke is set to join League One strugglers Chesterfield on loan. Clarke only joined Swindon on a two-year deal last month after his contract with Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers was cancelled. However, after failing to score in four appearances for the Robins, he is on his way out of the County Ground after a bust-up with manager Paolo Di Canio following the Carling Cup tie against Southampton. Swindon were unable to offload the 26-year-old before last week's transfer deadline, but he is set to seal a temporary move away from the club when the loan window reopens. It is understood the former Sheffield Wednesday front man will be on his way to Chesterfield, who are in need of striking reinforcements. Experienced forward Jack Lester is facing three months on the sidelines after suffering a suspected broken arm during last weekend's 0-0 draw with bottom club Leyton Orient. The Spireites have endured a tricky start to life in League One, having failed to win in six matches and scoring just four goals in the process.
