Chesterfield manager John Sheridan has bolstered his defensive ranks with the signing of free agent Dean Holden.

The 31-year-old, who previously played under Sheridan at Oldham, has signed a deal until the end of the season. Right-back Holden was a free agent after his contract with League Two rivals Shrewsbury was cancelled by mutual consent on Monday. "Dean is an experienced professional who is joining us at a very busy time of the season," said Sheridan. "You can never be sure how many injuries could disrupt our promotion push so his addition to the squad will provide useful further options as and when they are needed." Holden added: "I am delighted to be joining Chesterfield and am very keen to play my part in helping the side achieve promotion."
