Danny Whitaker is eyeing a promotion push after teaming up with old boss John Sheridan at Chesterfield.
The midfielder was snapped up by Chesterfield after he was released by Oldham at the end of the season following 87 appearances in two years for the club.
Nine months of that spell was with Sheridan as manager and Whitaker is delighted to be linking up with his old boss once again.
He told
skysports.com that the Spireites boss was a big influence - along with his assistant Tommy Wright - in his decision to join them.
No hesitation
Whitaker said: "Speaking to the manager and his assistant, I had no hesitation in coming here.
"There were a few other sides interested but I thought they may have been battling against relegation, and at this stage in my career that was something I didn't want to do.
"John was a fantastic midfielder and I didn't really work with him for as long as I would have liked under him at Oldham.
"He likes to play football and that's me all over - I want to get the ball on the ground and pass it about."
Eye-catching
Sheridan has brought in a number of eye-catching signings over the summer and Whitaker cannot wait for the season to get underway with his new team-mates, believing they can mount a promotion push.
"There is strong mix of youth and experience here and they were unlucky with a run of injuries last season," he said.
"But for that they may not have missed out on the play-offs, and this year we can hopefully put that right."
Whitaker will be pushing to make his competitive Chesterfield debut when the League Two season opens with a home clash against Barnet on Saturday, 7th August.
