Iron chief wants midfield duo to stay at Glanford Park

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins is hopeful he can keep hold of influential pair Matt Sparrow and Sam Togwell. Adkins has offered the duo new deals to extend their stay at Glanford Park, but the Iron boss says he is still waiting on a response. It leaves the midfielders' future at the North Lincolnshire outfit hanging in the balance, with their manager admitting he does want to see them leave. Paul Hayes, Marcus Williams and Grant McCann left have already left as free agents in the close season, meanwhile top-scorer Gary Hooper is widely expected to be snapped up by a potential suitor. Adkins revealed he was looking to make additions to his squad, but his foremost concern was persuading Sparrow and Togwell to put pen-to-paper on new deals. Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We have made them both very good offers - and they know we want them to stay. But they know too that we cannot wait for too long for an answer from them. "I would love to be able to announce we have got a couple more players, but we try to go about our business in private and nothing is resolved until we have a signature on a contract."
