Chesterfield midfielder Jamie Ward has blasted critics of under-fire manager Lee Richardson.
The Spireites have struggled so far this season and currently sit 14th in League Two after losing five of their 10 games.
Some fans at Saltergate have called for Richardson to be dismissed, but Richardson wants support.
"To be honest it is pathetic," Ward told Radio Sheffield when asked about the criticism of Richardson. "The fans should be getting behind us.
"The majority are, but you always get a certain section that want the manager's head when things aren't going well."
And Ward has warned that the criticism could begin to affect members of the Chesterfield squad.
"Hearing fans chant 'Richo out' does get through to the players," Ward continued. "I think at times you can see that and it doesn't help.
"It goes through the lads and knocks the confidence."
