ROTHERHAM UNITED have clinched the £75,000 signing of former goalkeeper Mike Pollitt from Chesterfield.

The 29-year-old left Rotherham last summer in acrimonious circumstances when he signed for Chesterfield on a Bosman transfer.

However, Ronnie Moore has moved for him again as he wants Pollitt to replace current number one Ian Gray.

"I don't think I will make a better signing as long as I am at the club," said a delighted Moore.

"He was magnificent when he was here and deep down, he knows he made a mistake when he went to Chesterfield.

"I was the first one to have a pop at him when he left because I was angry after I had agreed a deal but he's back now and that's all in the past as you can hold a grudge for ever. Sometimes you say things on the spur of the moment which you have to take back - I did that with Marvin Bryan.

"Once Mike has made his first save, the crowd will be behind him I'm sure, you can't hold things against people for ever.

"He really should be playing in the Premiership and he has undersold himself in the past as there aren't that many good keepers about but he was desperate to come back to us.

"I must thank the chairman and the board for backing me on this one and let's hope they will agree to sanction a few more so that I can bring some more quality players in."
