Mason Bennett jumped at the chance to join Chesterfield on loan from Derby and is "buzzing" at the prospect of showcasing his talents.
Bennett, who will remain with the Spireites on an initial month-long deal, has been allowed to leave the Rams to get some regular first-team football under his belt after making just one substitute appearance in the past two months for Steve McClaren's men. The highly-rated 17-year-old had no hesitation in swapping a Championship promotion push for a title challenge in League Two. "I pounced on the opportunity when my agent asked me if I wanted to join Chesterfield, saying 'yes' straight away," Bennett told Chesterfield's official club website. "I'm buzzing because I want to get in front of a crowd again and show what I can do. I've been in and out of the team this season and I need to start playing regularly." Bennett will be available for the Spireites' home game against fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford on Saturday and he is eligible for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley at the end of this month. Chesterfield boss Cook has hinted that Bennett's stay at the Proact Stadium could be prolonged. He said: "My job is to bring good players to the club and Mason is certainly a very exciting young player. We can offer him an opportunity to come in and hopefully forge a relationship which might last longer than a month." Bennett, who hails from nearby Langwith, had a spell on trial with Chesterfield before joining Derby as a schoolboy. The England Under-19 international has made more than 30 appearance in total for the Rams - 14 of them this season, although just one of those has been a start.
