Bradford secured their third Premier League scalp of a simply astonishing Capital One Cup run as they defeated Aston Villa 4-3 on aggregate in a pulsating semi-final.
Despite losing 2-1 at Villa Park in the second leg, it was Hanson's 55th minute header which proved crucial to Phil Parkinson's side, with the 25-year-old having only started his professional career at Valley Parade in the summer of 2009.
And the former Co-op worker told Sky Sports: "After the first half I thought it was going to be backs against the wall pretty much all night, but we got the goal.
"It looked a bit nervy in the end but I thought we were quite comfortable in the second half.
"I've never been to Wembley. It's been an amazing three years for me. I've just got to keep working hard and hopefully get a trophy."
And captain Gary Jones saluted the gritty display from Bradford as they held out against a first-half onslaught from Villa to secure their place in the final, where they will face either Swansea or Chelsea.
He said: "I'm lost for words. To beat three Premier League teams on the run in and to come here and play really well.
"To get to Wembley is an absolutely magical day. That's what happens in cups.
"We knew we were going to be on the back foot, but we have got some team spirit and resilience, and we scored a great header through James, it is fantastic."
