Coleman praises skipper Jones

Rochdale boss John Coleman hailed Gary Jones after the skipper scored a 92nd-minute penalty to clinch a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Jones kept his cool to fire past Darryl Flahavan after Joe Thompson had been pushed over by Dan Strugnell in Saturday's League One clash at Spotland. "Gary Jones was the ideal man for the job - it was a pressure kick but I can't think of anyone better in that situation," Coleman said. "I felt we thoroughly deserved the three points, and that's all that mattered. We took the game to them from the off and although they had a spell when they created a few chances in the second half, we weathered that and took it to them again. Both teams could have scored more goals but I felt on the balance of play we were good value for the win. "It was important we put in a better attacking performance after the defeat at Scunthorpe on Tuesday, and we managed to do that. We knew there were areas we needed to improve and we did that. "Our passing was much better and the only thing missing was converting more of the chances we created."
