Boss takes blame as Dale slide

Rochdale boss John Coleman was quick to shoulder the blame following Tuesday's defeat at relegation rivals Scunthorpe.

A superb second-half strike from Garry Thompson gave the Iron a much-needed 1-0 victory at Glanford Park that lifted them out of League One's bottom four at the expense of their opponents. "I should have realised that the pitch was a difficult one to pass on and the way Scunthorpe set themselves up as a team," said Coleman. "We should maybe have gone more direct, but I like my teams to play football the right way. "It was a game either team could have won - we too had our chances. The disappointing thing is that our level of performance dropped from my first game in charge against Bury. "But we did not get too high after that result and will not get too low after this. The most disappointing thing is we have given a shot in the arm to one of the teams down there with us. "There were a number of things that I thought we did well and now we have got to bounce back."
