Bradford City manager Peter Jackson has backed his first permanent signing at the club to be a big success.
The former Huddersfield boss snapped up prolific non-league starlet Ross Hannah on a free transfer from Matlock Town, where he scored 52 goals in all competitions last season.
The 24-year-old is untested in the Football League, but Jackson told
skysports.com that he expects big things from the ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United trainee.
"Any striker that scores that amount of goals, at any level, even as a schoolboy, is a fantastic achievement," said Jackson. "But especially when you consider that he scored so many goals in a side that finished in mid-table.
"He is really looking forward to it and obviously every player you sign from non-league is a bit of a gamble, but he was out of contract and didn't cost any transfer fee, so it is a win-win situation for the football club."
After a frustrating campaign at the Yorkshire outfit, Jackson is determined to push for promotion next season after steadying the ship since arriving at the club in February.
Underachievement
"We've had five wins and seven defeats and draws, so it hasn't been bad, but it could have been better," he said.
"Most managers get jobs when teams are struggling and there was no question that they were low on confidence when I came into the club.
"They vastly underachieved last season because the aim was to push for promotion, but having kept the same bunch of lads together we finished the season very well.
"Without a doubt there will be high expectations next season because of the crowds that we get in this division and they want success.
"They haven't really had success since their days in the Premier League because it has been a bit of a decline since then, with a good cup run or promotion push non existent.
"So, they have been starved of success a little and hopefully we can have a good go for promotion next season."
