Middlesbrough have agreed a fee with Livingston for promising teenage winger Andy Halliday.
The highly-rated 18-year-old is regarded as one of Scotland's finest up and coming talents, earning rave reviews after a number of assured displays this season.
He has plundered 14 goals in 22 appearances, helping Livingston to promotion out of the Scottish Third Division.
Such promise was never going to go unnoticed for long, with it apparent that he was destined for bigger and better things.
Boro have now offered him the opportunity to further his development in England, with Gordon Strachan hoping Halliday will continue to blossom during his time on Teesside.
"We are a long way down the road," the Scottish coach told the club's
official website on his efforts to finalise a deal.
Gamble
"Andy came down here to train with us recently and we liked what we saw.
"He's 18 and he's hungry. Livingston have had some success with players such as Graham Dorrans (West Brom) and Robert Snodgrass (Leeds) and hopefully he can be another good player coming from there.
"He's costing us next to nothing. I am looking forward to working with him here because he is hungry.
"You have to take wee gambles like this. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
"But we are gambling with a lot less (financially) than we have gambled with before."
