Johnson hails hero Haynes

Gary Johnson hailed Danny Haynes after the Cheltenham striker scored one and set up another in a vital 3-1 win over Cambridge.

And the Robins boss praised Haynes - a player he had first signed back in 2009 when in charge of Bristol City - after the 27-year-old hot-shot helped his side climb off the foot of the table. "When Danny is on form and he's confident and things are going well for him then he is a player; he's unplayable," Johnson said. "The others showed that they were unplayable, Shaun Harrad had a great start up there, Manny Manset had a great start - that's how he used to play when he had his big time at Hereford scoring goals. "They really showed what they've got in them, it was just the mentality I had to get out, three heart attacks later I've got it out of them. "It was a fantastic performance by the lads, I've been pushing and shoving for that sort of performance and we needed to put on a performance that looked like we were attacking with intent. That was exactly what they gave. "We scored three and were unlucky with another three or four. That was a proper football team there, a football team trying to play and the crowd getting behind them because they knew that they were giving them 100 per cent. "I think a few of them in there have lived up to their past reputation. Because here some of them looked like they were in their prime." Harrad gave the Robins a dream start, latching on to Haynes' pass before firing home on 80 seconds. Zack Kotwica hit the post with Manset's rebound being disallowed for offside before Ryan Bird levelled the scores in the 34th minute with the U's first shot on target. But it was one-way traffic after the break with Haynes restoring Cheltenham's lead before Matt Sparrow made sure of victory with a long-range effort that was deflected past keeper Chris Dunn. Cambridge boss Richard Money admitted the best team won, saying: "I'm not going to put in the public domain what I think and I'm not going to put in the public domain what we've said to them - not just here, but for the last two months. "It's not for the public domain, it's for the dressing room, but everyone who was here will know the best team won. "To be perfectly honest, I don't know why anyone is thinking about the gap [between the sides], this is a game of football you've got to win. The gap doesn't even come into it and the pitch doesn't come into it either because it's the same for both teams."
